Sunset Walk

Schools out for the summer in South Africa, meaning it’s double-time holiday season between the summer break and Christmas.

Totally oxymoronic for us northern hemisphere blokes, I know, but here, Christmas comes with sweltering heat waves, ocean frolics, and sand between the toes. I can’t quite seem to get into the Yuletide groove, though, as I think I require some degree of bleak and dreariness to summon Little Baby Jesus and Frosty the Snowman.

No matter because now, I follow Eleanor the reception lady’s cartoon map of the one mile treasure hunt around the big tree, pass the pond, and back home, and I swear, this might just be the best Christmas present ever.
